We, the under – signed residents of Jersey City, N.J., State of New Jersey, and citizens of the United States of America hereby sign this PETITION in opposition to any and all proposals submitted to the City Council of Jersey City proposing removal of the KATYN FOREST MASSACRE MEMORIAL monument located at Exchange Pl., Jersey City, N.J.<\/p>\r\n

We are not opposed to any proposed economic development of the surrounding area. We request to be fully informed about the facts of all proposals, especially those involving the location of the KATYN 1940 monument.<\/p>\r\n

We request to be fully informed and advised of any proposed removal of the monument. Requesting statement of all reasons that the monument is in any way conflicting and stopping further development of the area of Exchange Pl. and its surroundings.<\/p>\r\n

We request that the KATYN FOREST MASSACRE MEMORIAL COMMITTEE, INC. and the Jersey City community be fully advised of any and all actions, hearings, etc. that involve the monument and its surrounding area. We request a full hearing by the City Council on this matter and also request that representatives from the Jersey City POLISH-AMERICAN community be allowed to present our position on this matter. This monument is at its location at Exchange Pl.. for over thirty years and dates back to 1980\u2019s when Hon. Anthony Cucci was Mayor of Jersey City. We will do everything in our power to PREVENT and STOP any removal of the monument to a different location.

Please be advised that our committee was informed of certain plans by developers of the area at Exchange Pl., Jersey City, N.J. that these plans may include the removal and\/or relocation of the KATYN 1940 monument. We are very much disturbed and strongly oppose any removal and\/or relocation of the KATYN 1940 monument. Such removal and\/or relocation will be harmful, adverserly effecting and detrimental to the community in the area and to the general public at large.<\/p>\r\n

For your information this monument was erected at a great cost from private donations coming from the Polish community at large in Jersey City, State of New Jersey, United States and abroad. It dates back to 1980s when Hon. Anthony Cucci was Mayor of Jersey City. It is of vital importance to us and to the general public that the monument remain at its present location at Exchange Pl., Jersey City, N.J. The monument serves, as not only a tourist attraction but is a memorial monument dedicated to World War II and 9\/11\/2001 ceremonies. Such Memorial Services have become a tradition for the past thirty years. Important foreign and domestic dignitaries have paid tribute to the victims of WWII and 9\/11\/2001 during \u00a0memorial services held at the monument on annual basis. Also the present location is beneficial to the business area attracting many people. It is vital to the local community and the public in general that this monument remain at its present location. We will oppose very strongly every attempt to have this monument removed and\/or relocated. Please contact us as soon as possible.<\/p>\r\n

Please be advised that it came to our attention that there are certain plans by developers in Jersey City, N.J. to remove and\/or relocate the KATYN 1940 Forest Massacre Memorial monument located at Exchange Pl., Jersey City, N.J. We are very disturbed and strongly opposed to the removal and\/or relocation of the KATYN 1940 monument as it will be harmful, adversely effecting and detrimental to the community in the area and to the general public at large.<\/p>\r\n

Present location of the KATYN 1940 monument is of vital importance to us and to the general public. The monument serves, as not only a tourist attraction but is a memorial monument dedicated to World War II and 9\/11\/2001 ceremonies. Such Memorial Services have become a tradition for the past thirty years. It is vital to the local community and the public in general that this tradition continues. We will oppose very strongly every attempt to have this monument removed and\/or relocated.<\/p>\r\n

Please be advised that our Committee has been informed that your company is the main developer in the area of Exchange Pl., Jersey City, N.J. We were advised that you plan to further develop the area surrounding Exchange Pl., which include the location of the KATYN 1940 FOREST MASSACRE MEMORIAL monument. It is our understanding that your plans may include removal and\/or relocation of the monument. We have not been contacted with regards to those plans and are very much disturbed by that fact, since it was our committee that founded and erected this monument at no cost to Jersey City but from private donations from the Polish-American community. For your information we enclose a history of the KATYYN 1940 monument and its description.<\/p>\r\n

We strongly protest the fact that we are kept in the dark and not informed. We request that full information be supplied to us and that the present location of the monument be protected. We will oppose any removal and\/or relocation of the monument and request that the location of the monument be not adversely effected by your development plans. It is our understanding that your plans of development must be approved by the Zoning Division of Jersey City and have Zoning approval. We will oppose any plans that include removal and\/or relocation of the KATYN 1940 monument that?s been at Exchange Pl., since 1991.<\/p>\r\n

We request that our representatives meet with you to discuss this issue as soon as possible. Please contact us promptly.<\/p>\r\n
